Trad-Hism is a newly coined word in the art world which literaly stands for the combination of Tradition and History in making works of art.Trad-Hism, whose introducer and pioneer is Elijah Magona Himself, does not necesarily aim at preserving History or traditions of a society but rather preserves the future in co relation with the Tradition and History. Basically, Tradhism is founded on the understanding that the future is what controls the present and the past. Everything man does today is all for the sake of tomorrow and the future. If people go to school today it is because they are trying to take care of who they want to become. Again, if I decide to visit the toilet now, it is all because am careful of not being disgraced in the next few moment to come. A Trad-Hist, therefore, should paint for the sake of the future. The anger and jelousy to guard destiny of any field, individual, or society should be his motivation to create. A Trad-Hist, does not overlook the present which progresses Traditionally, and the past whose events were all enforced by where we are all going. All of Elijah's Artwork are built on the concept of Trad-Hism and for your better understanding refer to one of the paintings entitled "Visions of Gweru" |
